It’s still in the very early days, but DC has announced new Watchmen and Justice League: Crisis On Infinite Earths direct-to-video animated films. The logos for both upcoming films were revealed during the DC Studios panel at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, with further details deeply under wraps.
While plots and voice casts are still a mystery, we do know that Watchmen will be rated R, with all signs pointing to a very faithful adaptation of the original Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons graphic novel. The title was previously adapted into a 2009 live-action film by Zack Snyder as well as a critically acclaimed 2019 live-action Prime Video series created by Damon Lindelof.
As for the Justice League film, the Crisis on Infinite Earths comics follow Anti-Monitor, a cosmic destroyer, who seeks to eliminate the entire DC multiverse. The plot was previously adapted for a televised “Arrowverse” crossover. The upcoming film may serve as the next installment in DC’s “Tomorrowverse” animated films, with the potential of cameos from numerous DC animated series.
Watchmen and Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths are slated to release in 2024.
