2023 Fest Anča Winners Announced

The 2023 Anča Awards were announced at the event’s closing ceremony on July 1, with the Best Animated Short Film awarded to Armat by Elodie Dermange. The event is Slovakia’s first Oscar-qualifying festival, with winners in the Best Animated Short and Best Slovak Animated Short categories eligible for consideration for the 96th Academy Awards. The Academy announced the Oscar designation just before this year’s festival began.

Here are the Anča Awards winners of the 16th Fest Anča International Animation Festival 2023:

Best Animated Short:

  • Armat by Elodie Dermange (Switzerland, 2022)

Animated Short – Special Mention:

  • In the Big Yard Inside the Teeny-Weeny Pocket by Yoko Yuki (Japan, 2022)

Best Student Animated Short:

  • Balaclava by Youri Orekhoff (Belgium, 2021)

Student Animated Short – Special Mention:

  • Cufufu by Bruno Quast (Estonia, 2021)

Best Animated Music Video:

  • No Lullaby – Ezequiel Torres (Argentina, 2022)

Animated Music Video – Special Mention:

  • A Hundred Nights by Sofiia Melnyk (Ukraine, 2022)

Best Slovak Animated Short:

  • Doubt by Adela Križovenská (Czech Republic, 2023)

Slovak Animated Short – Special Mention:

  • My Name is Edgar and I Have a Cow by Filip Diviak (Czech Republic, Slovakia, 2023)

Best Animated Short for Children:

  • Pond by Lena Von Döhren and Eva Rust (Switzerland, 2023)
