Traveling with young kids can be exasperating but director Fraser Davidson and writer Chris Brandon at Cub Studio transform one such adventure into a charming (and rhyming) story that should give all new parents hope.
Fraser Davidson: “Recently, many of the Cub Studio family have become parents. Despite the joy of being able to travel the world again (post-pandemic), many parents know how all-consuming the logistics of travel with children are for a young family.
“In April of 2023, while taking a holiday break from the studio, I traveled to Tenerife with my wife and two small children (Ray, 4, and Margot, 9 months). Despite his huge excitement at traveling abroad and journeying by flying metal tube, Ray was exhausted by the whole experience.
“‘I’m Leaving’ is written as a children’s book as well as an animation and was created in honor of you and your little monsters as you embark on your travel adventures.”
“It was clear we needed to create an animated piece that encapsulates this great adventure of air travel, but that also serves to explain the complex and laborious nature of the process.
“Having whipped up something semi-legible, we brought in the big guns to create a carefully crafted script for our story. For this, we enlisted the services of Chris Brandon. We had a huge amount of fun creating familiar locations and stops that mark the process of flying internationally.
