Vijay Varma is an Indian actor who rose to fame while primarily performing in Hindi language films. Following his critically acclaimed performances in Pink (2016), Gully Boy (2019), Baaghi 3 (2020), Darlings (2022), and the online series Mirzapur (2020–present), She (2021), and Dahaad (2023), Varma gained notoriety and praise. Varma was born on the 29th of March 1986, in Hyderabad, Telangana, into a traditional Marwari family. In Hyderabad, Varma’s father runs a handicraft company, and not much is known about his mother online. He is the youngest of three children, with an older brother named Manoj Varma and an older sister named Shobha.
A Suitable Boy (2020), directed by Mira Nair and based on the Vikram Seth novel, is part of Vijay’s other acting projects. Another is Anand Gandhi’s miniseries, “OK Computer,” a sci-fi mockumentary. He was included in Film Companion’s list of the “100 best acting performances of the decade” soon after Gully Boy was released.
Vijay is an enthusiastic gamer who lives by the rule of “watching one movie every day.” His rise to national fame and recognition is truly remarkable when you consider the fact that he had absolutely no prior ties or relations in the film industry, and his image and wealth are all because of his organic efforts and hard work. In short, he isn’t a repo baby that Bollywood seems to have had enough of. In fact, he is a self-made actor whose reputation is all a by-product of his own talent and abilities.
Education and Career
Born and raised in Hyderabad, in the Indian state of Telangana, Vijay first dipped his toes in theatre work. Before deciding to relocate and moving to Pune for two years to pursue a formal acting education at the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), he worked in a number of plays. It is reported that Varma ran away to Pune to pursue his ambition of acting, and one of his friends helped him out by paying the tuition for the two-year program and providing an allowance every month. He relocated to Mumbai after completing his master’s program in order to look for acting work.
His debut role was in the critically praised short film “Shor” by Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK, which won the Best Short Film award at the MIAAC festival in New York that year. After the general public developed an interest in his extraordinary performances and acting skills, he continued to work in both Hindi and Telegu films. For his outstanding performance in Gully Boy (2019), a coming-of-age tale about a budding street rapper from Mumbai’s Dharavi slums, he was nominated for a Filmfare award. Gully Boy was directed by Zoya Akhtar. The film was India’s official submission for the 2020 Academy Awards.
The critically acclaimed period drama “Chittagong” (filmed in 2010, and released in 2012), which won two National awards, included him portraying his take on the character of a youthful rebel. In the 2013 film Monsoon Shootout, he portrayed the pivotal character. The movie was an official selection at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival, but it wasn’t until 2017 that it was released in theatres. He attracted recognition from both critics and viewers for his portrayal of a violent and abusive adolescent in the 2016 sleeper blockbuster smash “Pink.”
Shortly thereafter, he appeared in the 2019 film Super 30 as the narrator. Vijay experienced greater commercial success in 2020 with Baaghi 3 (2020). He also appeared in the Netflix-exclusive Hindi anthology horror film Ghost Stories (2020), which was directed by Zoya Akhtar and starred Janhvi Kapoor. The wildly popular Netflix series She (2020) had Vijay in the role of a sadistic drug lord, and he delivered a brilliant performance. Both the audience and the critics were captivated by Vijay’s portrayal of “Sasya.” He most recently appeared in Tigmanshu Dhulia’s 2020 film “Yaara.”
The actor is currently dating the actress, Tamannaah and is now 29 years old. They were initially seen kissing in a video that appeared to have been filmed on New Year’s Eve in Goa, which is when the relationship rumors first started to surface online and circulate the internet. Much later, Tamannaah opened up about how they initially met, and it was discovered that they quickly grew close during filming for their most recent project, Lust Stories 2, a Netflix original film. The difference in age between the two is three years, with Tamannaah being 33.

In addition to performing as an actor in several high-profile projects, Vijay is also a model, and his estimated net worth ranges from INR 18 to 20 crore. Despite his ascent in the Bollywood film industry being fairly fresh, his professional success is nothing short of remarkably praiseworthy.
