Immerse yourself in the world of Charlie Mackesy’s charming story and learn about the making of its Oscar-nominated animated short film adaptation next week, when Gallery Nucleus L.A. presents a special screening event and creatives panel for The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse. After this opening reception event on Wednesday, February 15, select concept artwork will be on exhibition until Feb. 19 (closed Mondays).

The film will screen at 6 p.m., followed by a presentation and a panel with producer Cara Speller, art director Mike McCain and visual development artist Jenny Yu. The evening will close with a signing; copies of the book will be available in the Gallery Nucleus shop, but outside items are also allowed (limit two signing items per person).

Tickets are $5. Purchase tickets online and find more information at gallerynucleus.com.

Synopsis: The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse features Mackesy’s distinctive illustrations brought to life in full color with hand-drawn animation. A story of kindness, friendship, courage and hope for viewers of all ages, it is a poignant and heartfelt journey that follows the unlikely friendship of a boy, a mole, a fox and a horse traveling together in the boy’s search for home.

The film, presented in partnership with the BBC and available on Apple TV+, stars Tom Hollander as The Mole, Idris Elba as The Fox, Gabriel Byrne as The Horse and newcomer Jude Coward Nicoll as The Boy.

Matthew Freud presents a Charlie Mackesy film, produced by Emmy Award winner and Academy Award nominee Cara Speller (Love, Death + Robots; Pear Cider and Cigarettes; Rocket & Groot) of NoneMore Productions and Emmy winner J.J. Abrams and Hannah Minghella of Bad Robot Productions. Directed by Peter Baynton (The Tiger Who Came to Tea) and Mackesy, adapted in collaboration with Jon Croker (Paddington 2). The film is executive produced by Jony Ive and Oscar nominee Woody Harrelson (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri). Original score by composer Isobel Waller-Bridge, performed by the BBC Concert Orchestra and conducted by Geoff Alexander.
