Epic Games Releases RealityScan Free iOS App

Epic Games and Capturing Reality announced today that the RealityScan app is now free on iOS. The 3D scanning app for mobile devices turns photos into high-fidelity 3D models. Users photograph an object using their smartphone, and the app uses cloud processing to transform it into a 3D model, which can then be exported to Sketchfab and shared.

Photogrammetry solutions developer Capturing Reality aims to “make 3D scanning accessible to all creators,” stating, “…with RealityScan, anyone can create 3D models from real-world objects and use them to enhance the realism of their visualization projects.”

Watch the tutorial to learn how to create 3D models on a smartphone:

Capturing Reality previously joined forces with Quixel – curators of Megascans, an extensive scan library – to create high-fidelity scans using a desktop application, RealityCapture. The mobile app facilitates the quick and easy creation of accurate 3D models equal in quality to Megascans.

Upload completed 3D assets from RealityScan to Sketchfab, the publishing, sharing, and selling 3D, VR, and AR content platform. From there, users can download the model in Unreal Engine, Twinmotion, MetaHuman, or any other post-processing tool. RealityScan users can also automatically upgrade to a Sketchfab Pro account for a year after their first upload to Sketchfab.
